Today we introduced a new project. Yea!!!
Science of the Winter Olympics
Students chose a Winter Olympic event (sport) along with an outline of information to research. Before beginning the research, students were told of an experiment to be conducted on Friday, Jan 12th. Many Olympic sports require the use of safety helmets for their participants. The experiment we will conduct on Friday involves designing and constructing a safety helmet for a boiled egg. After the "helmet" is attached, the egg will be dropped from the top of a ladder to see how effective the student's helmet was. The egg shell is a representation of a human skull and the boiled egg tissue is roughly the consistency of a human brain. Students are to provide their own materials for this experiment. Please, bring materials between now and Friday morning in a bag labeled with the student's name. I will provide the egg, a baggie and tape. ALL other materials must be brought from home. Suggestions include: cotton balls, bubble wrap, scrap foam, Styrofoam pieces, cloth, towels, etc.
